Coffee Shop Guide: Best Study Spots in Barcelona 2024

Let's be real - finding a good study spot isn't just about wifi and coffee. It's about finding somewhere you can actually focus for hours without spending your whole budget or getting weird looks from the staff. After three years of studying here, these are my tried-and-tested spots.

Libraries: The Classic Choice

CRAI La Ciutadella

Honestly? This might be Barcelona's prettiest study spot. The building itself is gorgeous, and it's super quiet. Just get here early - the good spots fill up fast during exam season.

UPC / UB Libraries

You don't need to be a student at these unis to use their libraries. They're spacious, have good air conditioning (trust me, this matters), and plenty of power outlets. The UPC library in Campus Nord is my go-to during crunch time.

Coffee Shops: Where I Actually Study

My Favourite (Yes, that's the name!)

Carrer d'Aragó, 190, L'Eixample This place feels like a second home now. The coffee's good, prices are fair, and - most importantly - they don't mind if you camp out with your laptop for hours. The staff actually remembers regular customers, which is rare in Barcelona. And no, they're not paying me to say this - I just spend way too much time here!

Glòries Area: The Study + Social Combo

The whole area around Glòries has exploded with good cafes lately. I love it because:

  • Tons of coffee options (from cheap to fancy)
  • Young crowd, mostly students and remote workers
  • Easy to switch from study mode to meeting friends
  • Great transport connections

Outdoor Study Spots (When the Weather's Nice)

Parks and Gardens

When the weather's good (which is often), try:

  • Parc de la Ciutadella (find the spots away from tourists)
  • Jardins del Palau Robert (hidden gem, super peaceful)
  • Turó Park (if you're in the upper part of the city)

Pro tip: Download your reading materials beforehand - sunlight and laptop screens don't mix well!

Hidden Gems

Cultural Centers

  • Centre Cívic Pati Llimona: Quiet study rooms and cheap coffee
  • La Central: Bookstore with study spaces and great cafe
  • MACBA: The study area is surprisingly peaceful

Neighborhood Spots

Each neighborhood has its secret study spots. In Gràcia, I love [...], while in Sant Antoni you can't beat [...].

Study Spot Survival Tips

After countless hours of study sessions, here's what I've learned:

  1. Always carry a power bank
  2. Make friends with the staff (seriously, it matters)
  3. Have backup spots for when your usual place is full
  4. Learn the quiet hours of each place
  5. Consider getting a monthly coffee subscription if you plan to be a regular

Final Thoughts

The best study spot is personal - what works for me might not work for you. Try different places until you find your groove. And remember, sometimes changing your study spot can help when you're stuck on a tough subject.

P.S. Keep these spots nice, okay? Nothing ruins a good study place faster than people not respecting the space!
